Our Practice
Main Heart Clinic is managed by Dr. Amin H.Karim and Officer Manager Ms. Guadalupe Cantu with a staff of three medical assistants and four front office secretaries. Patients are seen by appointment only from 8.30 Am to 1 Pm Monday to Friday excluding National Holidays.
All About Dr. Karim
Dr. Karim grew up in Karachi, Pakistan. He attended the St. Patrick’s High School and the D.J. Science College, Karachi graduating with the highest grade in the city of Karachi. He studied Medicine at the Dow Medical College, one of the oldest medical institutions in Pakistan. During his medical training, Dr. Karim achieved honors in every medical subject and won numerous
gold medals. He graduated in 1977 at the top of his class with seven gold medals (a record in Pakistan).
Dr. Karim obtained his initial training in Internal Medicine and General
Surgery at the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Center in Karachi, Pakistan. He then re-graduated in United Kingdom by obtaining Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians of London and Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. (M.R.C.S. (Eng.) L.R.C.P. (Lon.). He then proceeded to do training in Internal Medicine at the Oldham Royal Infirmary, obtaining membership (by exam) in the Royal College of Physicians of United Kingdom in 1981.
Dr. Karim then moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he obtained training in Internal
Medicine at the Sinai-John Hopkins Program, graduating in 1984. He was awarded the Best Resident Award and was the Chief Resident and Assistant Program Director in the final year of training. In 1984, he joined the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas and obtained three years of training in Cardiovascular Diseases including a year dedicated to Interventional Cardiology and Thrombolysis.
Dr. Karim started a solo practice in Cardiovascular Diseases in the Texas Medical Center, Houston in 1987. In 1988, he founded the AngioCardiac Care of Texas – a heart and blood vessel clinic. he practices Cardiovascular Diseases at the Methodist Hospital and DeBakey Heart Center, the St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospitaland the Texas heart Institute, The Tenet Park Plaza Hospital, The Hermann-Memorial Hospital, the Tenet Bayou City Hospital. PHILOSOPHY :
Dr. Karim subscribes to the philosophy that when a patient consults a physician, he or she places a sacred trust in that physician, and in turn a physician has to respect that trust as he would his most revered belief. A physician is duty bound to advise his patient a test or treatment that will be of most benefit to the patient regardless of who and where that is performed. On the basis of that philosophy, Dr. Karim takes care of his patients. If the patient needs to be referred to another specialist, he would be referred only to one Dr. Karim would go himself or send one of his family member.
